Critiques
Vision: The image has been well conceived and has a simple concept, sand and sky, which is immediately obvious to the viewer.
Composition: Compositionally this image is sucessful. In particular the lines of sand lead the veiwer into the shot in a very classical way that is easy to appreciate. The 3rds split of the horizon is again classic, but effective, the horizon is perfectly placed. There are a few distractions for me. The shadow in the distance is, in my opinion, ugly and unclear, it detracts from the simplicity of the image. The water in the distance is also a minor distraction. It does have the benefit of giving the image context, but ultimately I think I would prefer it if it was either more significant, or not visable at all. Finally in an ideal world the top of the cloud would not intersect the top fo the frame, obviously this point of critique may just be wishful thinking!
Originality: The shot isnt original at all, but I dont think this matters. Originality is not in my opinion a catgory an image should be judged by.
Technique: The shot is technically excellent, focus, exposures and processing are all very good. I would say thatI find the blue at the top of the image just a tiny bit too rich, but this is a minor point.
Impact: The colour contrast and foreground texture make a very strong impact. However the idea that this scene is pretty much always there and the knowledge that there are many shots similar to this does not make this particularly memorable, even if it is very well shot.
Overall a very good image
